Chopsticks and Rice
Chopsticks should never be placed vertically into rice. This is due to its similarity to a Chinese ritual for death. When performing the death rites incense would be placed in a rice bowl vertically. Making the same gesture at the dinner table is a bad omen, and do not be surprised when a Chinese person corrects this cultural taboo.
