Shanghai Bus System is very intricate and should not be used by someone unfamiliar with the city. For tourist there are a few buses that can save you time and money to get to a location. In fact, A few Tourist specific buses are available and all leave from Shanghai Stadium. Buses from Pudong International Airport are the cheapest way into the city.
Nearly all city buses are air-conditioned and cost 2 RMB. Bring extra pocket change incase you find yourself on a different type of bus and must pay by the Kilometer. The best way to pay is a Shanghai Public Transportation Card, it takes out the guess work.
There are over 1000 bus lines in the greater Shanghai Area. The buses are owned by about 20 private companies.
